A Story about Synergy

By Cherry Dumas, Utah

Cherry lives on a mountaintop in North-Eastern Utah. She is close to her family and has two cats and a dog. She has always had a passion for magic, reading, and writing. She always tries to incorporate the magic of the Universe into her everyday life.  Her first book was just picked up and is about to be published! Congratulations!!

Her website is http://www.enchantmentofthemind.com

This story is her concept of what might have happened when Synergy was created from the original crystal. She's incorporated details from Sherry's life in the story. This is fiction. It is not the actual history of this skull.

************

The green lizard scurried across the rock face, ignoring the way the moonlight danced across the surface and reflecting deep inside it. All that concerned him are the ants that march in the area. The ants are a full meal for any army of lizards, but are a large banquet for a lone one.

Gazing at the ants hungrily and unable to believe his luck, his tongue flicked out.

Just when he was preparing to go in for the dive, he sensed something not right. Jerking his head around, he heard the heavy fall of something walking, branches snapping and leaves’ crunching…the noise gets closer and the lizard knows it is no longer safe. He scurries out of sight as a woman came nearer.

The woman gazes around her, but does not seeing anything. Her brow furrows as she continues to walk through the area. As she walks, the light bounces into her eyes, temporarily dazzling her. When her vision clears, she turns her head and stares at the stone the lizard had been running across…

The large, clear stone shimmers with inner clouds and rainbows, which shift of their own violation. Its mass is rough in some spots, pointy in others, and remarkably smooth in the rest.

The woman has never seen a crystal as large as this one, especially in this area. As she gazes at it, she wonders how her people could have overlooked such a beautiful and impressive for stone so long. She knew no one had, for if they had, they would have felt the stone speaking to them as it spoke to her. She even wonders how she could have missed it herself, as she often takes walks in this area as she pondered how to help her people.

She had been taking a walk through the area trying to come up with a solution to the tribes’ illness. No one knows what is causing her people to become ill. She and the others have been praying to their gods, but as of yet, no answer has come.

Yet, looking at this stone, she wonders if this is the answer, the one they all have been seeking.

Until this stone, not a glimmer of an idea has shown itself.

She does not know what it is about this particular stone that is calling her but she knows this is a special stone, one that may become an important piece to them all. Is it the answer?

Not knowing for sure, she stares at the stone as she wonders, eventually she has to leave to return to the village, but she vowed to herself she will return.

For several days and nights, she continues to come to the stone to watch the sunlight and moonlight play across its surface and reflect deep in its center, hoping it will reveal what she is to do to help her people.

Daylight…moonlight…in both lights the stone radiates something, but she cannot decide what it is, at least not yet...

Several days after first finding the stone, she rushes back to her village and gathers several of the stronger tribe members. She cannot afford to wait any longer for inspiration. Last night several more fell ill, making the total number of sick over half of the village. It doesn’t matter the age. Old…young…they all lie in their beds rambling and moaning as a high fever ravages their bodies. Already several have passed from life from this fever.

With the men, she rushes to the stone where she carefully cleans away the debris that has settled at the base, taking care to not damage it.

When it was free, the men carefully balance it between them and carry it to the village where they place it in a spot where many can see and gain hope from it.

The villagers who are still well and who are not caring for those that are sick rush out when they hear the commotion, curious to find out what is happening.

The men place the stone on the ground and the woman rushes toward it, making sure it was not damaged in any way, all the while ignoring the murmurs of the crowd as they watch her strange movements.

When she sees there is no damage to the stone, she breathes a sigh of relief.

Closing her eyes to increase her focus on the stone, she runs her hands slowly over the stone…not its surface, but its energy. She nears a point that protrudes further from the stone and touches it, laying her hand on the point.

Taking a hold of her tools that she used to chisel around the stone earlier, she carefully takes a small piece. Telling a small boy, “do not allow anyone touch the stone.” She then rushes into her hut and places the stone in water. She watches as the stone sinks to the bottom. Something is not right…something is missing. She scratches her head and glances out of her hut to see pink, orange, and purple rays of the sun as it sets beyond the trees.

As she watches, the light outside gradually dims, decreasing the quality of the light. But as the moon begins to glow overhead, an idea then hits her.

She picks up the container that holds the water and the stone and walks outside to see a few villagers still gathered around, pointing and talking…still wondering what she is doing.

The moon appears over the top of the trees and shines into the stone, which in turn reflects the light into the bowl…

As they watch, the light dances across both surfaces. The woman beckons the village crone to her and whispers in her ear. The crone nods and rushes as fast as she can to her home and runs back with herbal sacks clutched in her hands.

The woman takes the sack of herbs with a smile; she sprinkles a few herbs into the water, and takes vigil through that night and the next day. For several nights, she stands watch over the stone and water, and then doles out portions of the water to be taken to the sick.

For several days and weeks, she does this same routine.

She waits several days between each new bowl of water to allow time for the light to reflect through the stone and into the water. Finally, the men, women, and children begin to improve until they are all well again…

***

Sherry woke with a start. She has seen some variations of this dream, sometimes just as she had seen it, other times long after the crystal had been moved to the village several times in the past. Always it revolves around the big crystal and the same village.

She knows this crystal. The result of what came from that crystal sits in her office where it helps others to this day.

Tossing back the covers, she got out of bed and walked into the kitchen to get a drink. Walking onto the deck outside the kitchen, Sherry gazes at her property. Her gaze wanders around the landscape, taking in the animals and plants, scenery and energy. A bunny hops through the scrub, bringing a smile to her face.

Finishing her drink, she walks back into her kitchen to put her glass into the sink before continuing to her office…to the where the result of the dream crystal sits.

“Good morning Synergy.” Sherry says. She smiles at Synergy as it sits in its custom stand. “How are you this morning, hmm?” Sherry smiles again and she sees a reflection of Synergy smiling back.

Of course Synergy can’t smile considering she is a crystal skull, but Sherry knows, as have others who have witnessed it, that Synergy gives the impression of smiling through small visions and through her energy.

“How are your little protégées, Synergy?” Sherry asks, as she looks closer at the skulls and crystals surrounding to gauge their energy.

Yes, Sherry can see the energy of objects, it is one reason she can read Synergy’s moods so well. Skeptics don’t believe that Synergy communicates through energy; they cannot believe she has a life force. However, those that do believe…those that know…always tell a different story than the skeptics.

Picking Synergy up, Sherry carefully sets the skull to gaze out the window while she works on the computer.

“Good morning.”

Sherry turns to gaze at her husband Steve and grins. “Good morning! I didn’t wake you when I got up did I?”

“Not at all. It was time for me to get up. People to see and places to go.” He says, winking at Sherry.

“What’s on your plans today?” Sherry asks Steve.

“Nothing much. Just puttering around, doing little jobs that get away during the week.” He walks over the Sherry and wraps his arms around her in a hug. “What about you?”

“Oh, I think I will respond to some e-mail, and then work on my workshop plans and puts some more stuff on eBay. Not much. Though I may go to the wash and meditate a bit today. I have been seeing some visions…or memories from Synergy…that I want to find out more about.”

Steve looked at Sherry and then at Synergy. He tilted his head to one side while gazing at Synergy and says, “why don’t you take Synergy with…I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that she wants to go with you today.”

Sherry looks at Synergy and sees the light bouncing off her. “I think I just might do that.” Steve nodded, gave Sherry a kiss, and left the room. “So you want to meditate with me today, huh?” Sherry laughed as she saw the rainbow in Synergy’s third eye area glimmer. “I think we can do that!” Laughing again, Sherry tilted her head as she considered the skull. She thought back to her dream. “Is that the woman?” She wondered aloud. “Is she the one who you are modeled after? Is that who they honored by creating you?” She superimposed her image over Synergy. “It’s possible…but is it true? No matter, at least not yet. You will tell me for sure when the time is right.” With a last considering glance at Synergy, she turns and walks to her computer…

 ***

Sherry sighed as she turned off the computer. “Well, that’s done; shall we get a drink and go meditate for a little while?” Sherry asks Synergy as she turned to face the skull. Walking to the kitchen, she quickly drank a glass of water and began to gather what she needed to take with her for the meditation in the wash.

 ***

After climbing down into the wash, Sherry looks around for her favorite spot and she gently places Synergy down and settles herself on the ground. The dogs lie down nearby as Sherry sinks into the trance of meditation. She looses sense of her physical body as deeper and deeper she sinks…

***

At first, she sees nothing…just blackness. Then a voice comes from her left.

“Sherry…”

Sherry turns to the voice and sees the woman that has been appearing in her dreams.

“Are you Synergy?” Sherry asks.

“Yes. And I am here to show you some of what you have been seeking.”

“Some?”

“Yes…some. It is not the right time for all to be revealed. You shall learn what you need when the time is right.”

Sherry nodded. “Am I allowed to ask questions?”

The woman looked at Sherry. “You, better than most, know that questions are the way to learn. You, better than most, know that you cannot have true understanding unless you voice the questions that float around in your mind, heart, and soul. What would you like to know first?”

“The dreams, they are to show me Synergy’s origins?”

“Yes. They show you as Synergy was in her crystal form.”

“What are you going to show me?”

“You have already seen parts of what you are meant to see…those that have been shown to you in your dreams. Now you shall see the parts that have not appeared to you yet…those of Synergy in later times. Those of Synergy in the time between then and now.”

“What is the purpose of showing me this information?”

“Knowledge. When you know the past, you shall know more of the present and be able to have glimpses of the future.”

Sherry nodded again. “I am ready.”

“The woman standing next to her touched Sherry’s hand with the tip of one finger.

In the darkness, pinpoints of light showed, until it resembled the stars in the night sky. They began to swirl around her, creating a mixture of light and dark, giving Sherry the sense of moving through time and space.

After only moments, the lights halted.

 ***

Out of the darkness scenery appeared.

Sherry looked around herself to find the same village that haunts her dreams. However, something is wrong…something is different.

The village is the same as in her dreams, yet at the same time, it is different.

The huts are older and some have fallen into disrepair. From her vantage point, Sherry cannot see any villagers.

“What’s wrong here? Where is everyone? How much time has passed between my dream and now?”

“Two generations have passed since you first saw this village in your dreams. There are only a few villagers left, the rest have left. The remaining villagers will soon be gone as well.”

“Gone? As in left or gone as in passing from this lifetime?”

“Two will be passing from this lifetime. They were too old and frail to move. This is why a few have remained behind. As soon as they have passed on, the remaining villagers will join the rest in a new location.”

“Why are they leaving?”

“There is blight on this land. The vegetation and animals have fallen sick and no matter what has been tried, there is no hope, at least not for some time to come, for this area to achieve its abundance again. Look around. See the rot eating the vegetation? See the animals that have fallen to no longer rise again?”

Sherry looked around and she did see what the woman pointed out. The land is blighted; it was obvious once you looked.

“What caused it?”

“No one knows. It took some time for it to happen.”

“I suppose the crystal couldn’t help.”

“It slowed down the decay, but it could not cure it.”

“Where is the crystal?”

“Those that remained behind will carry it with them to the new location. It is smaller than it was. By this time, my earthly body has already fallen and I have moved on. However, not too far. I remained to watch and help where I could. It was not time for me to move on yet.”

“How long between the time your body fell and this time with the village?”

“Decades. My body fell only a few short years after helping to rid the village of the sickness. They cast my ashes to the wind, save my skull. After my body fell, the new healer saw a vision of my skull inside the crystal. It was a short time later they began to prepare the crystal to be crafted into the skull you now care for.”

“From my research, it took many generations for it to be shaped into the shape it has now…into the shape of your skull. Did they keep your skull and the crystal together that entire time?”

“Yes.”

Just then, the remaining villagers left one of the huts, two of them carrying a much smaller crystal that was just beginning to bear a vague likeness to a skull strapped in a travois.

“The old ones have passed on. These ones are joining their families to begin new lives. The skull will continue to be shaped and be protected for many years to come.”

The woman reached over and touched Sherry’s hand again.

Again, the stars appeared and began to swirl.

When the stars had faded and new scenery appeared, Sherry asked, “Where are we this time? How much time has passed?”

“A few more generations have passed since you last saw the crystal and the shape it was beginning to take. We are still near the original village. The land there has healed, and the blight is gone, but none have resettled there. The crystal has taken the shape it is meant to be…the skull. The skull is still not as refined as it will come to be. That will take one more generation before that happens.”

“Why are you showing me this generation?”

The woman pointed to where a young child just appeared out of the opening of a hut. “This child is a special child. Can you see?”

Sherry looked at the child, and at first look, he appeared as any other child. But when he joined a few of the other children, she saw his physical and spiritual difference. “He looks different then the rest of the children. He has different blood in him.”

“That is correct. What else do you see?”

“His aura is indigo.”

“You are correct. He is an indigo child, one of the first. It will still be about one hundred and fifty years before the nun arrives. This child will have a great impact on the skull. That is the reason I showed you him.”

“How so? What impact?”

“My energy has slowly been charging the crystal as they have worked on it. However, it has been a slow movement. This child, through being an indigo child, will help pave the way for my energy to speed up the encoding process of the crystal. He will also help to pave the way for the tribes own energy to rise to the next level. They will be unaware that he did this though. To them, he is one of the villagers, slightly different look wise and attitude wise, but they assume it is from his mixed blood, but accept him the way he is anyway.”

Sherry looked at the boy for a moment. “Can he see us?” Sherry knew that no one would be able to see them. They were looking into past events…recordings of what has happened. But the boy…he boy was looking straight at them.

“Only he. He has the ability to see glimpses of what is hidden from others. He sees us, and knows we are not from his time, but he won’t say anything. He has seen others like us, and knows that we mean no harm to him or his village. He knows we are seeking only knowledge.”

Again, the woman touched Sherry’s arm.

Again, the stars spun.

Again, new scenery appears before them.

It is the same village they had just left, but Sherry can see that time has begun to affect it.

“When are we now?”

“The child you saw is now a grandfather. It is his son that finished carving the skull, and it is his grandson that helped finish imparting my energy to the skull.”

“How? Did he know he was doing it?”

“No, he was unaware. As for the how, the grandson was allowed to hold it when he was only two summers old, and it was through his touch that my energy finished transferring to the skull.” The woman pointed to the river where a teenager, his father, and his grandfather walked toward the village. “Come. We must follow.”

Sherry and the woman followed the trio of men into a hut. There, sitting on a carved wooden stump was the skull. It sat cradled in the grove of the stump.

The men sat before it and began speaking. Sherry could not understand the words, but she recognized the mood. They were entering a trance, and the skull was the focal point for it all…

 ***

Once more stars swirled and a new scene appeared.

Without Sherry asking, the woman said, “it is the time of the nun to arrive. The teenager you just saw is now the grandfather. He is frail and old. He does not have much time.”

Sherry and the woman stood next to the old man’s bed. His grandson, only a child, sat by his side, tears running down his face. The old man weakly lifted his hand to the boy and whispered to him. The boy flung himself across his grandfathers’ chest.

A woman walked through the door.

The boy looked up and shook his head from side to side, as he clung to his grandfather.

The woman, who looked to be in her late thirties, looked kindly at the young boy and sat beside the old man. She gave him a drink from a cup, and he looked at her, gratitude shining from him eyes.

The woman said something in the native tongue, and then began to pray. Holding her rosary in her hands.  Sherry saw that she is the nun that history told her of. While the nun prayed, the child clung to his grandfather and the old man closed his eyes and with a last sigh left the world.

“Was there nothing more that could be done to save him?” Sherry asked.

“Nothing more could have prevented his leaving. He was ready to go and the nun eased him on his way.”

Sherry watched, wishing she could do something. Wishing she could comfort the grieving boy. The nun reached for him and enfolded him in her arms while he cried.

“Come. You know how the rest of this story plays out. It is time to go home.”

 ***

Sherry slowly opened her eyes to find herself back at her property. Her dogs were sleeping next to her, and Synergy was smiling, the setting sun reflecting off the skulls surface.

“Well, Synergy.” Sherry said with a sigh. “Is that your history…or something similar to it? Are the answers I seek hidden among the images and information I was given?”

Sherry stood and stretched to ease the cramps out of her body. “I don’t suppose you will tell me what it all means and make it easy for me?” She added looking once again at the skull as she gathered her into her arms to go back to the house.

Sherry whistled for the dogs, and they woke with a jerk. Both looking around confused for a moment before jumping up and bounding toward the house.

As Sherry followed at a slower pace, she wondered how long it would take to decode the message from that vision. Whatever the final message will be…it was an interesting and enlightening journey through time. She also wondered how much of it was fact, and how much of it was altered for the message…

Only time will tell that story.
